About the Artist
Coster Ojwang, a dynamic Kenyan artist at the age of 27, has firmly established his practice in Nairobi, the heart of Kenya's vibrant art scene. Ojwang's journey into the arts commenced at The Mwangaza Art School in Kisumu, where he embarked on an educational path in 2013, culminating in his graduation in 2015. Following his academic pursuits, Ojwang relocated to Nairobi, where he immersed himself in the creation of drawings, paintings, and collages.
Ojwang's artistic expression is characterized by his passion for expressive painting, marked by the use of bold strokes and a vivid color palette that vividly manifests in his works. His art is deeply personal, drawing inspiration from his life experiences, the diverse landscapes and people he has encountered, and the rich wildlife endemic to his homeland. This blend of influences results in artworks that are not only visually striking but also rich in narrative and emotional depth.
The recognition of Ojwang's talent has transcended local boundaries, leading to exhibitions at esteemed venues such as The National Museum of Kenya, in Golbourn, Australia, St. Francis Gallery in Massachusetts, USA, and in The Netherlands, showcasing his art to a global audience. Notably, his recent exhibitions include "The Contemporary Impressionism" at the Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel, and "The Talisman Restaurant Art Show," both solo shows that highlight his individuality and evolving style. Additionally, his participation in group exhibitions like "Why I Love Kenya" at the Polka Dot Art Gallery and "This Is My Story" alongside Ismael Katterrega, further affirm his role in the contemporary art discourse, both in Kenya and abroad.
