Joseph Waweru

Joseph Waweru, based in the collective studio of the Wajukuu Art Project, is a Kenyan artist with deep roots in Nakuru. His journey into the art world began at the Mukuru Art and Craft Skills Training Centre, where he encountered Shabu Mwangi in 2004, marking the start of his professional development. Waweru's artistic endeavors are deeply influenced by the socio-economic dynamics of urban and slum life in Kenya, particularly the dense population concentrations and their implications.

Waweru's art is a reflection on the collective and individual identities that thrive within Nairobi's bustling environment. He draws a parallel between the instinctual movements of insects and human behavior, intrigued by how individuals and groups navigate their existence and pursue collective objectives.
