Kerima Ahmed
About the Artist
Kerima Ahmed, born in 1978 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, is an accomplished artist with a rich academic background, having graduated from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University in 2002. Her commitment to the arts is further evidenced by her role as a founding member of the Nubia Visual Art Studio in Addis Ababa. Currently, Ahmed has made her home in Los Angeles, California, where she continues to contribute to the global art scene.
Ahmed's artistic journey is marked by several notable solo exhibitions, showcasing her talent and unique voice in the art world. Her work has been featured at the Columbia City Gallery in Seattle (2013), C Art Gallery in Seattle (2012), Norm Maxwell Studio Gallery in Los Angeles (2011), and the Arthur Rimbaud Museum in Harar (2005, 2006). In addition to her solo exhibitions, Ahmed has participated in various group shows that highlight the diversity and vibrancy of her artistic expression. These include exhibitions at the Circle Art Gallery in Nairobi (2015), LeLa Art Gallery in Addis Ababa (2014), and the prestigious Art of Ethiopia events held at the Sheraton Addis in Addis Ababa from 2009 to 2013.
Her work has also been displayed at the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa (2007, 2013) and has crossed international borders, reaching audiences in Djibouti, Uganda, Sudan, the Netherlands, Austria, and France. Through her art, Ahmed explores a range of themes and narratives, contributing to a deeper understanding and appreciation of Ethiopian culture and beyond. Her global presence and the international recognition of her work underscore her role as a significant figure in contemporary art.
