Migadde Adrian

Migadde Adrian, known in the art world as M Migadde Adrian Guy, is a fervent Ugandan artist born 30 years ago, whose upbringing in the lively neighborhoods of central Kampala nurtured his creative spirit and sociability. Art has been Adrian's lifelong companion, enabling him to meet life's necessities, pursue education, and foster connections and friendships. His educational journey took him from Bat Valley Primary School, through Old Kampala Secondary School, to London College of St. Lawrence for his A-levels, culminating in a first-class bachelor's degree in Industrial Fine Art from Uganda Christian University, Mukono, in 2013. His university education saw him majoring in sculpture, graphics, drawing, and painting.

After university, Adrian embarked on a career as a gallerist with Afriart Gallery from 2013 to 2018. During this period, he continued to nurture his art practice, collaborating with other artists, designing for homes and lodges, and creating murals. This phase of his career led to significant exposure through exhibitions both within and outside Kampala, notably the August 2017 Surface Group Exhibition, the Colour Group Exhibition in Torino, Italy, and the Kampala Biennale 2018. These experiences ignited Adrian's passion for art, prompting him to leave his position as a gallerist to focus fully on his art career.

Adrian's work has attracted the attention of prominent collectors from Italy, the USA, Kenya, France, Qatar, and notably, it is part of the esteemed African contemporary art collection of Mathias Gervane Leridon. His art is deeply influenced by personal experiences, particularly by a family member who lived with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder for over 30 years in Uganda, a condition Adrian perceives as intertwined with the legacies of British colonial rule and governance. Through his art, Migadde Adrian continues to explore and express complex personal and historical narratives, establishing himself as a significant voice in contemporary African art.
