About the Artist

Nelly Guambe, born in 1987, is a Mozambican artist whose paintings delve into the emotions and situations of women. Her artistic journey began in 2010 at Nucleo de Arte, the Mozambican Artist Association, following her graduation with a BA in International Relations and Diplomacy from South Africa. Guambe's work, a blend of drawing and painting, is characterized by its haunting, delicate, and restrained nature, capturing a sense of restlessness that seeks to express rather than resist or represent the disquietudes of life.

In addition to her painting, Guambe has explored the world of fashion design, reflecting the themes of everyday womanhood and the human figure found in her artwork. Between 2012 and 2016, she launched two up-cycling fashion brands and, in 2017, co-founded the Deal Creative Space in Maputo to promote various creative fields.

Guambe's debut solo exhibition, "Inquietude (Restlessness)," was hosted by Nucleo de Arte in Maputo in September 2017. Her work has also been showcased in group exhibitions at Guns & Rain in Johannesburg in 2018, the FNB Joburg Art Fair, and 1:54 London by Ed Cross, marking her as an emerging voice in contemporary art.
