Nourelhadi Elkhidir Awad
About the Artist
Nourelhadi Elkhidir Awad, a Sudanese painter with a 15-year residency in Qatar, draws deeply from his childhood memories in Sudan to fuel his artistic creations. Specializing in both realistic and abstract subjects, his repertoire includes landscapes, seascapes, portraits, caricatures, and cartoons. Awad's work, celebrated for its unique portrayal of life and emotions, was recently highlighted at the third annual group exhibition of the International Artists Doha at the Qatar Foundation Recreation Center. His pieces, particularly one inspired by his birthplace, Karni Island in Sudan, captivate with their vivid depiction of an unspoiled natural world.
Another of Awad's notable works illustrates a poignant tale from his grandmother about a homesick woman, symbolized by a five-eyed figure and a wingless bird, representing her longing and constraints. A separate piece reflects on communal harmony, a theme he feels is diminishing in contemporary society. Additionally, Awad tackles social disparities through his portrayal of street children and wealth, a theme evident in one of his earlier works from 1989.
Awad's artistic journey began in childhood, sketching everything from teachers to local football teams. His professional commitment to art was solidified following a career shift about five years ago. With exhibitions across French Cultural Centers in Doha and Sudan, as well as the Qatar Arts Society, Awad has established a significant presence in the art world. His work, recognized for its vibrant use of color and unique compositions, commands prices ranging from QR4,000 to QR12,000.
Holding a Master's in education technology and a Bachelor's in fine and applied arts, Awad's life is interwoven with art, a passion he advocates for aspiring artists to embrace freely and wholeheartedly.
