Pedro Pires
About the Artist
Pedro Pires, born in 1978 in Angola, is an artist known for his innovative sculptures and paper works, skillfully integrating a diverse array of materials from mundane objects like plastic containers and raffia brooms to industrial metal grinders. His art delves into the complex narratives of mass production and exploitation inherent in these everyday items, while simultaneously navigating themes of stereotypes and identity. Pires's academic journey includes a Master in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK, in 2009-2010, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture from the Fine Art Faculty of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2005. His studies were further enriched by the Fine Art Erasmus Scholarship at the University of Athens in 2004. Represented by Gallery Momo in South Africa and TINAWC (This Is Not A White Cube) in Angola, Pires's work continues to challenge and engage audiences, contributing significantly to contemporary art discourse.
