Raphael Adejetey Mayne
About the Artist
Raphael Adjetey Adjei Mayne, born in 1983 in Accra, Ghana, honed his artistic skills at the Ghanatta College of Art and Design. As a multidisciplinary artist, Mayne transitions seamlessly between the traditional canvas and the vibrant textiles of African fabrics. His journey as a self-taught artist, coupled with over a decade of experience, has culminated in a distinctive style that marries the rich tapestry of African materials with the art of sewing.
In his work, Mayne incorporates Adinkra symbols, which are deeply rooted in West African, particularly Ghanaian, culture, blending them with a contemporary flair. This fusion not only pays homage to his heritage but also bridges the gap between tradition and modernity.
Since 2013, Mayne has been based in Germany, where he continues to expand his artistic practice, bringing his unique perspective and aesthetic to a global audience. Through his innovative use of materials and symbols, Raphael Adjetey Adjei Mayne contributes a vibrant voice to the contemporary art world.
