Taabu Muyoki
About the Artist
Taabu Muyoki's journey into the art world began in his childhood, blossoming into a serious pursuit during his high school years. His passion led him to Kenyatta University, where he immersed himself in Fine Art, majoring in graphic design and honing his skills in sculpture and painting as minors. Presently, Muyoki works from Kobo Trust, with David Thuku serving as his mentor and guiding influence.
For Muyoki, art is more than just a form of creative expression; it's a way to articulate the myriad situations and experiences that have shaped his life, reflecting the environment in which he was raised and continues to dwell. His exploration of various materials and media—including paint, resin, ink, pastels, and digital art—allows him to address social issues and delve into the complexities of human relationships, the self, and the surrounding environment. Through his creations, Muyoki aims to stir emotions both within himself and among his audience, invoking a deeper reflection and connection.
Muyoki's talent and vision have led him to participate in a number of prestigious group exhibitions, showcasing his work to diverse audiences. These include the Safari ya Sanaa Exhibition at Alliance Francaise in Nyali, the Manjano Exhibition at the Village Market in Nairobi, and the "Early 21st Century Young African Artists" exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London. His presence in the art scene was further solidified with his participation in exhibitions such as "30 under 30" at Kioko Art Gallery in Nairobi, the Manjano Exhibition again at the Village Market, and an Open Studio at Kobo Trust in Nairobi. His works were also featured in the End of Year Exhibition at Circle Art Gallery in Nairobi, the Wasanii segment of the Kenya Art Fair, and the KMS Affordable Art Fair at the National Museum in Nairobi, marking significant milestones in his burgeoning art career.
