About the Artist

Wallace Juma, born in 1987 in Kenya, embarked on his artistic journey at the Buruburu Institute of Fine Art in 2010, where he studied Art and Design. His artistic exploration involves a diverse range of materials and techniques, through which he communicates his thoughts and messages. Juma's works have been showcased in a multitude of exhibitions across East Africa, Nigeria, Europe, the USA, and Australia, marking him as a prominent figure in the international art scene. He is also a co-founder of the Kijani Art Studio, a burgeoning artist collective based in Komarock, Nairobi.

Juma's art is distinguished by his use of reclaimed materials, posing critical questions about the perceived value represented in glossy magazines and similar media. He delves into the portrayal of Homo sapiens within these publications, questioning the authenticity and true nature behind the polished facades. His work challenges the viewer to look beyond superficial appearances, suggesting that removing the layers of constructed reality may reveal a more genuine, human story, less adorned but more authentic.

His creative endeavors have not gone unrecognized; notably, Juma was awarded the first prize at the 'Manjano 2018' art competition in Nairobi, Kenya, and secured second place at the 'Artist view Schramberg' in 2015 in Germany. Through his art, Wallace Juma invites us to reconsider our perceptions of value and reality, offering a deeper, more human narrative beneath the glossy surface.
