Biography
A curator and writer from Uganda, her research and curatorial practice is squarely focused on work by artists and writers from Africa and its diaspora. She explore ideas of blackness as a shared ground for intimacy, theory, play, and method. As a thinker, Mirembe is interested in a critical and generative engagement of work by Black artists.In 2022, Mirembe was Zeitz MOCAA & University of the Western Cape (UWC) Museum fellow. She were also a 2021/22 Center for Arts, Design + Social Research (CAD/SR) Fellow. Mirembe's curatorial practice threads literary and visual arts. She curated and produced the Writivism festival in Kampala from 2017-2019 and was a curatorial fellow for KLA ART '21, a contemporary visual arts festival in Kampala produced by 32° Degrees East | Ugandan Arts Trust. Mirembe's writing has been published in Artforum, African Arguments, Literary Hub, Africa is a Country, Johannesburg Review of Books, African Feminism, Africa In Words, and others.
