About the Artist
Gideon Appah, a Ghanaian artist born in 1989 in Accra, has made a significant mark on the art world since his graduation with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, in 2012. His journey into the art scene was marked by his inaugural solo exhibition titled 'Sensation' at the Goethe Institute in Accra, which took place just a year after completing his BFA. That same year, he achieved international acclaim by winning the 1st Merit Prize Award at the Barclays L’Atelier Art Competition in Johannesburg, making him the first international artist to receive this honor. This victory awarded him a three-month artist residency at the Bag Factory Studios in Johannesburg in 2016, followed by a solo show at the Absa Gallery in 2017.
Appah's artistic presence was also felt at the Turbine Art Fair, and he was included in a group show at the Kuenyehia Art Prize for Contemporary Ghanaian Art booth at the Johannesburg Art Fair in 2015.
