King Debs, the artistic alias of Ofentse Letebele, is a dynamic South African multimedia artist and designer. His educational foundation was laid at the Tshwane University of Technology, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Design and Technology in 2010. Letebele's work is deeply influenced by his personal experiences, interests, and reflections on his life's journey, with a particular focus on exploring themes of African identity, scriptoria, handstyles, and indigenous ideographics.
King Debs has made significant strides in his career, marked by notable achievements on both national and international stages. In 2018, he reached the finals of the Chester Art Fair in the UK, showcasing his talent on a global platform. In 2015, his innovative design skills were recognized in South Africa's BOS Ice Tea Design-a-can competition, where his futuristic Ndebele bold line design triumphed over 700 entries to be featured on 10,000 limited edition cans. This achievement was paralleled by his nomination as a candidate for the National Arts Council in the same year. Additionally, in 2014, his 'AMANDLA' fist sculpture propelled him to the finals of the World Design Capital public art competition, further affirming his status as a significant emerging artist.
