Tegene Kunbi

Tegene Kunbi, an abstract painter rooted in Berlin, has carved a distinctive niche in the contemporary art scene with his vibrant and layered works. After completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Alle School of Fine Arts in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2004, Kunbi furthered his education at the Universität der Künste Berlin, where he received his Master of Fine Arts in 2011. His unique approach to abstraction often presents as flattened landscapes, inviting viewers into a nuanced exploration of depth created through meticulously applied layers of paint. In 2018, Kunbi's contributions to the art world were recognized in the 'Best of Galerie Ketken' exhibition at galerie gerken in Berlin, showcasing the pinnacle of talent within the gallery's roster. Further cementing his place on the international stage, his work was also selected for inclusion in the prestigious 13th edition of the Dak’Art Biennale of Contemporary African Art in Senegal, a testament to his evolving narrative within the African and global art context. Kunbi's work continues to draw interest for its profound aesthetic and conceptual depth, marking him as a significant figure in the realm of contemporary abstract painting.
