Thonton Kabeya
About the Artist
Thonton Kabeya, born in 1983 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is a distinguished artist currently residing and working in Johannesburg, South Africa. A product of the Institute of Fine Arts of Lubumbashi, Kabeya's artistic journey has been marked by significant achievements early in his career, including prestigious accolades such as the UNAIDS AWARD and the BELGIUM COUNCIL AWARD in 2006.
Kabeya's work has transcended local boundaries to become a part of esteemed collections globally. Noteworthy among these are the Contemporary Art Museum of Vitoria (ARTIUM) in Spain and the Unisa Art Collection in South Africa, as well as private collections including those of George Forest in the DRC and Erick Vellard in Paris, France.
Kabeya has actively participated in both solo and group exhibitions, with notable showcases including his solo show from November 23 to December 19, 2017. His group exhibitions have been diverse, with 'Solstice' in June 2017 and 'Pan Africa' in March 2017 standing out as significant platforms where his work was featured.
