NOT LIKE US: ABSTRACT PORTRAITURE
Portraiture has always been a powerful medium—one that captures the essence of a person, not simply their physical likeness. Not Like Us: Abstracted Portraiture is an exhibition by 2024 Curatorial Fellow Ivy Rihlampfu which moves beyond the surface to explore the intangible: identity, memory, emotion, and history. It brings together a range of artists who challenge conventional norms of representation while embracing abstraction as a form of storytelling.
Not Like Us: Abstracted Portraiture features work by Almogera Abdalbagae, Heba Adel, Amani Azhari, Thina Dube, Elhassan Elmuontasir, Nelly Guambe, Aurcha Makana, Lehlogonolo Mashaba, Sky Salanje, and Dennis Senjulu.
